March 2004

Women’s History Month, initiated by the National Women's History Project (NWHP), was established to draw attention to and rectify the limited focus on women in historical studies. In 1981, the NWHP successfully lobbied Congress to declare a "National Women's History Week", which was expanded to an entire month in 1987. This year's theme is "Women Sustaining the American Spirit."
